Hallmark Windows & Siding Review: My Vytex Installation

·

Hallmark installer fitting exterior trim above new Vytex replacement windows at a Columbia home

I hired Hallmark Windows & Siding to install Vytex replacement windows at my home, and the installation crew was so coordinated that watching them work felt like watching a choreographed dance. Everyone seemed to know exactly what came next. One person handled a window while another prepared trim or tools, and the project moved steadily without looking rushed.

The windows themselves are very nice. Vytex manufactures its vinyl windows at its North Laurel facility in Howard County, so this project had an unusually local connection: a regional contractor installing windows made just a short drive from my Columbia home.

Why I chose Hallmark and Vytex

Replacement windows are one of those purchases where it is easy to get buried in model names, glass packages, frame chambers, coatings, warranties, and sales presentations. I wanted a well-made window, but I also wanted an installer that knew how to fit and finish it correctly.

Hallmark Windows & Siding has served Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia since 1994. Its website lists Maryland Home Improvement Commission license number MHIC #49261 and says the company has worked with Vytex for more than two decades. That established relationship mattered to me because the crew was not learning the product on my house.

Vytex says it has manufactured windows and doors since 1988. Its corporate facility is at 9425 Washington Boulevard in North Laurel, Maryland. The company produces several vinyl window lines, so homeowners should confirm the exact series, glass package, grille pattern, color, hardware, and warranty written into their own proposal.

The installation crew knew what it was doing

The installation was the part I enjoyed watching most. Window replacement creates a sequence of small but important jobs: removing the old unit, preparing the opening, setting and fastening the replacement, checking operation and alignment, insulating or sealing gaps, and finishing the exterior so water is directed away from the house.

Hallmark’s installers moved through those steps with impressive rhythm. Calling it a choreographed dance may sound dramatic, but that is honestly what it looked like. They were not bumping into one another, searching endlessly for tools, or debating what to do next. The work flowed from one person to another.

The photographs show something homeowners do not always see in a finished-project gallery: the windows during installation, before every exposed edge has been capped and sealed. That intermediate stage is useful because it shows how much of the job happens around the window, not just in the factory-built unit itself.

Exterior trim and finishing matter

A replacement window can look beautiful in a showroom and still perform poorly if the opening is not prepared, squared, fastened, insulated, flashed, capped, and sealed correctly. The exterior finish needs to shed water while allowing the window to operate as designed.

I liked that the crew treated the finishing work as part of the installation rather than an afterthought. The new white trim gave the windows a clean border against both the brick and siding, and the installers spent time working around the edges instead of simply setting the windows and leaving.

What I like about the Vytex windows

My first impression is that these are substantial, attractive windows. The white vinyl frames look crisp, the simulated divided-light grille pattern suits the house, and the glass area keeps the rooms feeling bright. The double-hung configuration is familiar and practical.

Hallmark’s current Vytex information describes available features such as fusion-welded corners, multi-chamber vinyl frames, Low-E glass, argon-filled insulating glass, and tilt-in sash designs on double-hung models. The exact performance depends on the window series and options purchased. Do not assume every Vytex window automatically includes every feature shown on a dealer’s general product page.

Vytex currently advertises a lifetime product warranty, while Hallmark describes a separate labor warranty. Warranty language can contain exclusions, transfer rules, service charges, and registration requirements, so keep the signed contract, model information, labels, and warranty documents together.

Questions to ask when comparing replacement-window estimates

  • What is the exact manufacturer, series, and model included in the proposal?
  • What are the window’s U-factor, solar heat gain coefficient, air-leakage rating, and ENERGY STAR status for this configuration?
  • Is the quote for an insert replacement or a full-frame replacement?
  • How will the crew handle damaged wood or an opening that is out of square?
  • What insulation, flashing, exterior capping, and sealants will be used?
  • Will interior trim, blinds, alarms, shutters, or window treatments need to be removed?
  • Who performs the installation: employees, a regular installation crew, or an unfamiliar subcontractor?
  • What is covered separately by the product warranty and workmanship warranty?
  • Who handles service if a sash, seal, lock, screen, or installation detail needs attention later?
  • Are disposal, permits, cleanup, and final inspection included?

Ask to see the product’s NFRC performance ratings for the exact configuration. A general claim that a window is “energy efficient” is much less useful than comparable numbers for the units in your estimates.

Would I recommend Hallmark Windows & Siding?

Based on this project, yes. I am happy with the Vytex replacement windows and especially impressed with the Hallmark installation crew. The windows looked good going in, and the team worked with the confidence and coordination of people who had completed this process many times before.

This review describes one installation at my Columbia home. It is too early for me to make claims about decades of durability or long-term energy savings, and another house may reveal different framing, moisture, or trim conditions. What I can fairly say is that the windows appear high quality, the installation was handled professionally, and the crew’s teamwork stood out.
